Washcloth #10 ~ Rena Washcloth

I hope you’re doing well this weekend and have gotten some crochet time in. If you haven’t, or if you want a little more, this is the perfect pattern. It’s quick and has great texture. The texture means it’s very good at scrubbing and exfoliating!

I don’t know what the name of this stitch is called, so I’m calling it the Rena stitch after my grandmother. I have also used it for a lapghan and a small bag. The lapghan pattern will be released later in the year.

This pattern is also available as an ad-free PDF in my Ravelry store.

DESCRIPTION: This washcloth is called the Rena washcloth because I am naming the stitch pattern after my grandmother. She loved to crochet in the past and I think she will enjoy the texture of this stitch. It produces a dense, bumpy texture perfect for cleaning!

GAUGE & SIZING:

Gauge (tension) isn’t very important in this project. For reference, my gauge is 10 bumps and 14 rows per 4″.

Play around with hook sizes until you find one that makes a fabric you like. This pattern is written to produce a washcloth that is roughly 8 inches by 8 inches.

ABBREVIATIONS & STITCHES USED:

ch = chain

st = stitch

sp = space

SC = single crochet

* * = Repeat what is in asterisks the indicated number of times

NOTE: Each two stitch repeat will create a “bump”. You will have 18 of these on each row.

Ch 1 at the beginning of the row does not count as a stitch.

Materials

About 65 yards of I Love This Cotton Yarn in Aspyn or any #4 cotton or cotton blend.

A 4.0 mm (F) hook

Tapestry needle for weaving in ends

Stitch markers if desired.

Pattern

Ch 39

1. SC in second chain from hook. * Insert hook in last ch used. Yo and pull up loop. Sk 1. Insert hook into next ch. Yo and pull up loop. Yo pull through all three loops. Ch 1*. Repeat across. SC in last ch. Turn

2. Ch 1. SC in first SC. * Insert hook in last st used. Yo and pull up loop. Sk 1. Insert hook into next st. Yo and pull up loop. Yo pull through all three loops. Ch 1*. Turn.

Repeat 2 until piece reaches stated measurements or desired size.

Finishing

Weave in your ends:

Thread the needle with one yarn tail. Weave the needle back through several stitches, about an inch. Turn and go back through, beginning in the second stitch from needle. Repeat once more. Repeat with any other yarn tails. Snip the tails.

This is a fun stitch and I hope you’ve enjoyed learning it! If you’d like to use this stitch for another project, the multiple is 2 + 1. What will you be using this stitch for? Let us know in the comments.
