Washcloth #6 ~ Double Crochet Lace

Using one of the most basic stitches in crochet allows this pattern to be accessible to most beginners. The lacy fabric appeals to more experienced crocheters. This pattern is also available as an ad-free PDF in my Ravelry store.

DESCRIPTION: This pattern produces a gorgeous, lacy fabric. It would be a wonderful addition to a care package or hostess gift. They would be very welcoming in a guest bathroom. The pattern is easy, but looks intricate. Enjoy!

GAUGE & SIZING: Gauge isn’t terrible important. For reference, mine had 4 V stitches per 4″. Finished size is about 10″ x 10″.

• ABBREVIATIONS & STITCHES USED:
ch = chain
sk = skip
st = stitch
DC = double crochet
V st = V stitch (1 DC, ch 1, 1 DC)

** = Repeat the instructions inside the asterisks the indicated number of times.
() Stitches within the parentheses are all worked into the same stitch
{ } The number inside brackets indicates the number of stitches in the row

Ch 3 at the beginning of the row = 1 DC

• MATERIALS:
About 90- 120 yards of cotton or cotton blend yarn
(Such as Paintbox Yarns Cotton Aran or Dishie from WeCrochet)
A 4.0 mm (G/6) hook
Tapestry needle for weaving in ends
Stitch markers if desired.

Pattern

ch 42

1. Beginning in the third chain, DC across. {39}

2. Ch 3 and turn. Skip the next two DC.

*In the next DC, work a V st.

Skip next two DC.*

Repeat across, ending with sk 1 DC and DC in the turning chain. { 1 DC, 12 V stitches, 1 DC}

3. Ch 3 and turn. In the next ch 1 sp and in each ch 1 sp across, work 3 DC. End with 1 DC in the turning chain. {1 DC, 12 groups, 1 DC}

4. Ch 3 and turn. In the middle DC of the three DC group in the row below, work a V st.

*Sk 2 DC. In the middle DC of the next 3 DC group, work a V stitch.*

Repeat across, ending with sk 1, DC in the turning chain. {1 DC, 12 V stitches, 1 DC}

Repeat rows 3 and 4 until the washcloth reaches 10″ or your desired size,

Optional: You can finish with a row of DC for a more balanced look.

Finishing

Weave in your ends:

Thread the needle with one yarn tail. Weave the needle back through several stitches, about an inch. Turn and go back through, beginning in the second stitch from needle. Repeat once more. Repeat with any other yarn tails. Snip the tails.
